It had always been a dream of mine—to travel down to South America, specifically Brazil and Argentina—to watch the heavyweights of CONMEBOL play in their home stadiums. This Club World Cup was something I wasn’t initially excited about. To be honest, I was critical of the idea. Players in Europe already play far too many matches throughout the regular season, not to mention international duties and World Cup qualifiers. But then came an incredible opportunity—to catch a game between Inter Milan and River Plate. The match was supposed to be on neutral ground, up north in the Emerald City of Seattle, Washington. But from the moment we parked and made our way to Lumen Field, it was clear: the atmosphere was anything but neutral. The drums, the flags, the noise... everything bled red and white. Los argentinos hicieron de este estadio su casa.As we walked to our seats, the faint chants grew louder and louder. I could feel the goosebumps rising. I was falling in love with the energy, the emotion, the pasión. La pasión del fútbol argentino es incomparable.

Before the 90 minutes, and all throughout, the singing and chanting never stopped. This wasn’t El Monumental, but it was the closest I’d ever been to Argentina.

Even though River Plate lost 2–0 to the UEFA Champions League runners-up, the fans stood tall. They kept singing, kept believing, kept loving their club. Esto fue más que un partido, fue una experiencia inolvidable.

This is something I’ll carry with me forever.
